ENAMELWARE TABLE SET

Renaissance of a classic design, icon of our childhood home life

Client: Lafont Cast Iron, Argentina

Disciplines: Industrial Design, Product Design, Manufacturing, ENAMEL

The CHALLENGE

Lafont designs, manufactures, and sells high quality kitchenware products. The flagships products are the colorful cast iron casseroles, but several other kitchenware utensils are designed and sold by Lafont.
This project consisted of designing, commissioning, and preparing to market a new line of utensils made of enamel. The set consisted of a whole range of pieces, namely serving dishes, deep plates, bowls and spoons.

The Design Process

Enamel is an iconic material, with a simple design, colored in an evocative way. The set of pieces was designed together with Colombian manufacturers and the design process focused on the selection of the colors and its application to a selection of classic and traditional pieces. The ultimate goal of the design process was to leverage the durability, smoothness and chemical-resistance of the enamel to replicate the porcelained surface termination that Lafont pieces have.

The Outcome

The enamelware set was introduced to Lafont’s accessories line to complement the kitchens where Lafont casseroles are used, and to dress the tables where Lafont casseroles are placed. The design process succeeded in making sure that all products work as a family. This timeless combination not only brings admirable qualities to the table, but also a reminition-feeling to all grandmother kitchens, just as all Lafont pieces do.
