Client: Lafont Cast Iron, Argentina

Disciplines: Industrial Design, Product Design, Manufacturing, Woodwork

The challenge

Lafont designs, manufactures, and sells high quality kitchenware products. The flagships products are the colorful cast iron casseroles, but several other kitchenware utensils are designed and sold by Lafont.
This project consisted of designing, commissioning, and preparing to market a new line of utensils made of olivewood.

The design process

The set of pieces was designed together with Argentinian artisans. The mechanical properties of olive wood and its manufacturing process strongly dictated the design guidelines, especially in terms of curvatures and thicknesses.
Once the products were ready, we worked with a team of photographers to prepare the marketing material.

The outcome

Different pieces designed for different purposes, but all accompanying LAFONT’s cast iron casseroles. Independently, each piece responds to a different necessity in the kitchen with a particular functional detail. As a whole, they build up this beautifully veined family of products that complement LAFONT’s accessories line. They are handcrafted by dedicated Argentinian artisans to conserve the wood’s unique color, aroma and streaks.
